Snaggy and weedy swims where the use of heavy lines and big leads are required are just perfect bedfellows for the Barbel Xtra. The brute power of big doubles can be easily tamed with this very special tool. The progressive action has stacks of hidden backbone that will literally stop those big whiskers in their tracks. As well as targeting the small southern river monsters the Barbel Xtra doubles up nicely as a big feeder rod on wider and deeper rivers like the Severn and the Trent.

The solid 1 ¾ lb tip is forgiving enough to use with the latest trend towards specialist braided lines which has now become the vogue method for bolt rig fishing with semi fixed leads on many of the tough southern rivers.

Fishing with non stretch braid is also ideal for trundling meat and touch legering in times of flood and heavy water conditions. The interchangeable quiver tip section comes into its own for upstream work where you would expect dropbacks and also absorbing debris and heavy current to ensure that the rig does not get moved out of position. This is a very serious rod for equally serious fish.
